Sugar

Ceres Trading supplies all types of sugar to meet the diverse and changing needs of businesses, whether small, medium or large. We distribute sugar produced in mills and refineries located around the world.

Sugar is one of the most widely exported soft commodities globally. Its production chain is diverse and complex, which has a direct influence on its price. Ceres Trading has a profound knowledge of this market, and closely monitors all the factors that affect it to provide its clients with the best commercial opportunities.

Over 100 countries around the world produce 180 million tonnes of sugar annually, of which approximately one third is traded internationally. 80% of the world’s sugar output comes from sugar cane, while 20% comes from beet.

Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of sugar in the world, accounting for approximately 20% of global production and 40% of world trade in the product.

India is in second largest producer, accounting for 17% of the total volume of sugar produced in the world. It is the biggest consumer of sugar and the third largest exporter.

After Brazil, the second largest sugar exporter globally is Thailand. The leading importer is China, followed by Indonesia and the United States.

Powdered Milk

The whole milk powder and skimmed milk powder supplied by Ceres Trading is a raw material of the highest quality because it comes from suppliers that are concerned with animal health and welfare rights from the beginning of the production process.

Whey permeate and whey powder are other containerized dairy commodities that we distribute, and that provide the same strict quality and commercial advantages.

While dairy farming dates back thousands of years, powdered milk is a more recent product. Milk powder has a far longer shelf life than liquid milk and does not need to be refrigerated, due to its low moisture content. It is also easier to transport.

Today, over 264 million dairy cows produce nearly 600 million tonnes of milk globally every year. Cattle produce 81 percent of world milk, followed by buffaloes with 15%, goats with 2% and sheep with 1%. Camels provide 0.5%.

New Zealand is the international benchmark in dairy products. It is responsible for 3% of the global production of such products and exports around 95% of all it produces.

Uruguayan dairy production is one of the most sustainable and environmentally-friendly in the world, second only to New Zealand for its low carbon footprint.

Wheat Flour

Ceres also sells containerized and bagged wheat flour, which makes buying and delivery processes both flexible and efficient. We have more than two decades of expertise in the food division and this enables us to closely monitor the balance between supply and demand and to guarantee the best deal and a product that maintains its quality throughout the operational process.

Wheat has been cultivated for over 10,000 years. Today, the total global production of wheat is around 780 million tonnes. 68kg of wheat is consumed on average by each person every year. The remainder is used for animal feed.

China is the biggest wheat producer, followed by India, Russia and the United States. Leading exporters are The European Union, Russia and Canada. The main importers of wheat are Egypt, Turkey and Indonesia, with Brazil in 6th place.

Wheat crops need 110 to 130 days to grow from planting to harvest. Weather and overall climate can have an effect on how fast the crop grows. Wheat produces a good yield per unit area and favours a temperate climate and well-drained soil.

Over half of global wheat output is milled into wheat flour, which is used to make bread, biscuits, cereals, pasta and noodles. White, brown and wholemeal are the main types of flour available.
